This area of MN is quietly becoming one of the best big buck hotspots in the state. For several years now I've been hearing about all the giant deer being taken in Otter Tail County, and for good reason. The county has the perfect 50-50 mix of crops and cover to grow big deer and lots of them. I also believe most of the landowners and hunters in this area know about the whitetail gold mine they're sitting on and they're managing for big deer more than ever.
When I parked at this property a local guy pulled up to me, I told him I was scouting for deer. He told me I was in the right spot. He said the field on this property has more deer feeding in it before dark than any other field in the township.
The enormous block of timber on this property is secluded right in the middle of the section away from all roads. It's very nice rolling country and the timber is big and mature. This property has saddles, funnels, pinch points, and awesome field edges to hang stands everywhere.
Both big bucks in the photos were harvested the fall of 2016 on this property. One was taken during rifle season, and one during muzzleloader season. This gives you a good idea of the deer in the area, and the management practices in place on the property.
