After a slow morning hunt with overcast skies and misting rain, I knew the evening hunt had a chance of being great. I headed out to my stand about an hour earlier than normal and immediately started seeing deer and turkey. After about an hour on the stand, I was tines coming up the power line cut to my right and I could tell immediately it was a mature deer. The buck slowly made its way to me, feeding the entire way, still upwind from me. He eventually walked 10 yards in front of my stand, giving me a perfect 10 yard, broadside shot. I got a full passthrough with the arrow and he was on the ground 60 yards later. I was glad I followed my instinct to get the stand when I did, otherwise I would have missed my chance at such a great deer.
