At first glance, the aerial photo of this farm might not seem impressive. However, there are times when an aerial photo can be deceiving on these types of properties. The numerous deer rubs and the sheer number of deer I encountered speak volumes more than any aerial view could. Every patch of timber the landowner and I visited had deer. As we drove around in his truck, the terrain often prevented me from taking pictures, as the deer would vanish before I could even step out. Still, I managed to snap a few photos before they all disappeared over the knoll and into the timber, and those deer are circled in red in the images.
Again, the aerial photo simply does not do this farm justice. The dense cedars in the northeast corner, which had some impressive rubs, something the aerial photo cannot show. The deer trails winding through the timber patches are as well-trodden as cow paths. The valley-like topography means deer can be in the middle of the row crops without being seen, just like the ones in the photos. Four ponds on the property provide year-round water for wildlife, especially deer from both this farm and the surrounding areas. There's a natural runway for the deer between this farm and the English River.
The layout of this farm is ideal for shotgun hunters and a bit more challenging for archery hunters. There are a few spots suitable for lock-on stands, while other areas would be better for ladder stands, ground blinds, or elevated box blinds. Regardless of your preferred hunting method, the opportunity to harvest a mature buck on this farm is undeniable.
